THAILAND FLOOD AFFECTED MICROSOFT *Flooding in Thailand will dampen Microsofts results..... The Thailand flooding results at the software giant will lekely be hampered by hard drive component constraints that have hit the PC business. At the Nomura Technology Conference held last week the company expects fourth quarter PC shipments to drop and the research company said that even though PC market growth is healthy, the fourth quarter had unusually weak holiday demand. Microsoft predicted statics would show lower PC sales in the fourth quarter because of flodding in Thailand. However, Gartner analysts say that Hard disk drive shortages sparked by the floods had little impact on fourth quarter PC shipments and prices. Analyst wanred, though, that the flooding could cause a major shortage in the first half of 2012 and potentially continue throughout the year. The pc shipments for the whole of 2012 are now expected to expand by only "6.8" percent in 2012,down from the previous outlook of "9.5" percent growth. As the numbers came out, you'll likely see that number decline further, as the impact has been felt faster tha people had anticipated, Intel warned in December that, largely due to the HDD shortage caused by flooding in Thailnad.
